The people at the top are calling 2024 the "wet look" year. This seems to tie in with garments carrying the theme of mermaids and the ocean. So whether you loved or hated the new Little Mermaid remake, the mermaid vibe is here to stay for just a while longer. Designers are taking references from the ocean's organic curves and continuing to echo the 50's and 80's cinched waists trend, this includes the taking this through to more fitted tops and tunics.
For those us who are recoiling in fear of all this tight fabric and nipped in waists. fear not, we have an ally who will come to our rescue. The double belt! Oh yes, it is making a come back and this must have accessory is a whiz at creating the illusion of a cinched in waist. Grab yourself one or two of these miracle workers and have a play with styling these with your favourite tops, tunics and dresses.
Top Tip: Gold and silver will be flooding the high street in 2024, so a double belt in gold or silver will put you right on trend.
There is a slight sense of deja vu with this next one. Everyone is going crazy for the denim jacket (I'm not sure this staple has ever left our wardrobes for long), but not as we know it. We wave goodbye to the classic denim jacket shape and style, and welcome this totally new look. The denim jackets of 2024 are getting a makeover from designers, as they remove sleeves, add frills and crop them to make more of a statement piece. I am loving how these are looking and have a feeling that they will be in everyone's wardrobe over the next few months.
And just to add to the denim delights coming our way, double denim is also here to stay! This means that like me, if you've fallen head over heals for teaming denim shirts with denim maxi shirts, you can confidently continue this look into Autumn and Winter this season. Hooray!
The naustelgia doesn't end with the denim jacket. Who remembers wearing dresses over jeans or trousers in the 90s? Whether you were a fan or not, it's back, and so are long shorts. I definitely tried both this trends back in the day, and if it's your first time, second or third on this trend, it will be making its way into the high street for Spring 2024.
Innovation to keep your eyes open for... Garments that can be worn in a number of ways! Yes, you read that right. These funky design items will be leaving the catwalk and landing in our wardrobes. Look out for jackets that can be worn as skirts and even trousers that will double up as shirts!
The big news... It's been 25 years, but capes are making the biggest coming back! These verstitle top layers haven't been seen as a major trend for a quarter of a century but they are on the return. In 2024 you will be able to attach these to your tops and jumpers or of course be worn separately. Quite honestly, we are never to old to feel like a superhero, so I will be jumping right on this comeback and adding an extra stylish whoosh to everyday activities.
